I have always said that there are two Menorcas: the one seen from land and the one seen from the sea. Both are very pretty; but one of them is more beautiful. And this is just the last one. If you spend a few days on the island, do not miss the opportunity to see it from this perspective. It is very worth it!

"Menorca en Velero" offers two options. On one hand, you can hire a full-day excursion along the south or north coast; and, on the other, you can go around the island in 7 days.

I had the opportunity to try the first option. The ship, called "Antigua Meloussa", always leaves from Mahón's Harbour and goes north or south, depending on the wind. They dated me at 10h am and at this moment they informed me that we would sail along the south coast.

It has a capacity for 11 people. I went alone and shared the adventure with other people I didn't know.

It leaves the Mahón's Harbour through the wonderful port of Es Castell (Cales Fonts). Once past the isla de Lazareto and already in the open sea, it turns to the right. Navigation is calm. The coast is bordered without haste, passing by, through the Rafalet Creek, S'Algar and the wonderful Alcaufar.

Just at the moment when, on the right, there is the Punta Prima Beach and on the left the Isla del Aire, just where there is the piece of turquoise water, is when the first stop is made. A few minutes to have a snack and swim in one of the points where the water is most spectacular.

As a curiosity, I have to say that the Isla del Aire is known as "the first sun of Spain", because it is the piece of land located further east and, as a consequence, they say that it is the first point where the sun rises in the morning. People says that the island is for sale, but as the law of costs prohibits building, nobody buys it. It is very cool to make the path that goes from the pier to the lighthouse. It is full of black lizards, a unique specie that only lives here.

The route continues through Biniancolla, my favourite "En Caragol" (with the best mojitos of the world), Binibeca beach, Binibeca town, Binisafua beach and Es Caló Blanc. Although the boat is bordering the cost, all these coves, villages and beaches are seen from far.

Finally, we reach the Biniparratx Creek. Here, with good judgment, they stopped for more time. The creek is beautiful and very sheltered. There are almost always calm waters. We take the opportunity to bathe, throw ourselves off the rocks, rest in the sun and eat. The food is correct and the drink is unlimited during all the trip.

From here, we made the way back; but without any stop.

They are very friendly. The treatment they give is sensational and very familiar. They make you feel very comfortable from the first moment. The captain makes explanations of the history and curiosities of the different places where we go by.

I recommend making previous reservation by web; because, in high season it may be full. The ticket is purchased on the same boat.

It is a different way to see the island. It is worth it.

Nearby, there is the agrotourism of Sant Joan de Binissaida, the agrotourism Alcaufar Vell and the rural hotel Biniarroca where it is luxurious and far from people!

Duration:

The getaway is done in one day (from 10am to 6pm).

Kids

No problem. In fact, if they are not very young, they love it.
